In general, a positive diagnosis of RA can be made if the following criteria are met: Inflammatory arthritis in three or more joints Arthritis symptoms that have lasted for at least 6 weeks Positive serological test: rheumatoid factor present in blood testing and/or positive anti-CCP Elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR or "sed" rate) or elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) Other possible causes of symptoms have been ruled out If your doctor suspects RA, they may refer you to a rheumatologist
